ROSEN is looking for a Business Development Manager that will be based in Calgary, Alberta. This position reports directly to the Head of Business Development, Proficient Integrity Division, and will be a part of the Business Development team.
What role you will play in our team
The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for leading market and business strategy development within the Business Development (BD) function for Proficient Integrity Diagnostics in North America. The role drives the identification, development, and structuring of growth opportunities by translating customer needs, market dynamics, and competitive insights into clearly defined opportunity spaces and go-to-market strategies.
The BDM works in close partnership with the Commercial Strategy Manager (CSM), who provides the commercial strategy layer, including pricing, analytics, financial modeling, and governance, required to validate and prepare opportunities for commercialization.
This role does not hold accountability for customer relationship ownership or sales execution. Rather, it enables Sales Managers by ensuring opportunities are strategically defined, commercially informed, and execution ready.
Market Insight and Opportunity Framing
• Develop and maintain a structured understanding of customer environments, market dynamics, regulatory drivers, and competitive positioning across North America.
• Translate market and customer insights into clearly defined and validated opportunity spaces.
• Serve as the regional voice of the market within BD, ensuring opportunities reflect genuine customer value.
• Collaborate with the Commercial Strategy Manager to ensure market intelligence is captured within standardized frameworks.
Go-to-Market Strategy and Playbook Development
• Develop go-to-market strategies aligned with segment, customer type, and service offering.
• Lead and assist in the creation and maintenance of structured playbooks, including value propositions, positioning, target segmentation, and engagement approaches across project lifecycle stages.
• Provide Sales Managers with the frameworks, content, and guidance needed to engage the market consistently and effectively.
• Partner with the Commercial Strategy Manager to ensure go-to-market positioning is supported by validated commercial logic.
Opportunity Identification, Development, and Structuring
• Identify, prioritize, and shape strategic growth opportunities aligned with regional value pools.
• Define opportunity scope, strategic rationale, and customer-value logic.
• Work with the Commercial Strategy Manager to support opportunity sizing, business case development, and commercial validation.
Portfolio Mapping and Gap Analysis
• Map regional customer needs against existing offerings to identify capability, technology, or delivery model gaps.
• Provide structured input into portfolio evolution discussions in collaboration with Service Line Management.
• Leverage insights and analytics provided by the Commercial Strategy Manager to support portfolio decisions.
Delivery Model Definition and Execution Alignment
• Translate validated opportunities into regionally executable delivery models, including capability, resource, and operational considerations.
• Ensure delivery models are operationally feasible, scalable, and supported by Service Lines and Operations.
• Align with the Commercial Strategy Manager to confirm delivery model financial viability.
Sales Enablement and BD–Sales Interaction
• Establish and maintain a clear interaction model between Business Development and Sales, ensuring well-defined responsibilities, information flow, and engagement cadence.
• Provide Sales Managers with strategic insights, positioning materials, and opportunity framing.
• Support Sales in strategic customer engagements where market strategy expertise is required, without assuming relationship ownership.
Commercial Input and Value Logic
• Provide market-informed input into pricing strategy, including customer willingness-to-pay, competitive positioning, and value drivers.
• Contribute to the development of customer value narratives and business case logic.
• Partner with the Commercial Strategy Manager, who retains accountability for pricing frameworks, financial modeling, and commercial governance.
Process Discipline and BD Governance
• Operate within established BD frameworks, processes, and governance structures.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of BD methodologies, templates, and standards.
• Ensure alignment with the data, reporting, and performance frameworks owned by the Commercial Strategy Manager.
• Strong strategic and commercial acumen, with the ability to interpret market dynamics, customer needs, and competitive positioning to inform business development strategy.
• Advanced ability to translate complex market and customer insights into structured opportunity spaces, go-to-market strategies, and actionable playbooks.
• Strong opportunity-shaping capability, including the ability to define scope, value logic, and strategic rationale in alignment with organizational capabilities.
• Demonstrated ability to design and refine delivery models that are operationally feasible, scalable, and commercially viable.
• Effective stakeholder engagement and influencing skills within a matrixed organization, including cross-functional alignment across Sales, Service Lines, Operations, Finance, and Commercial Strategy.
• High level of structure, discipline, and systems thinking, with the ability to apply consistent frameworks across opportunity development and BD processes.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present strategic concepts clearly to executive, commercial, and technical audiences.
• Ability to operate independently while working collaboratively within a structured BD operating model.
• Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in business development, commercial strategy, market development, sales, or a related strategic discipline.
• Demonstrated experience in market analysis, opportunity identification, and strategic planning within a technical or industrial environment.
• Experience developing go-to-market strategies, market entry frameworks, and structured sales enablement materials (e.g., playbooks, value propositions, positioning frameworks).
• Familiarity with pricing logic, value-based selling concepts, and business case development.
• Knowledge of pipeline integrity, diagnostics, or related energy infrastructure markets is considered an asset.
• Proficiency in standard analytical and collaboration tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Word, and Powerpoint; Power BI; CRM platforms; SharePoint; OneNote).
• Experience working within matrixed, multi-stakeholder organizations and supporting cross-functional decision-making.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Economics, or a related field is required.
• Advanced degree (MBA or equivalent) considered an asset.
